Last-Minute Preparation Checklist

It’s almost time to go. Do you have everything you need? Are you sure? Use this checklist to make certain.

  • If you’re driving, do you have your map or directions? If you’re flying or taking a train, do you have your tickets? Do you know what platform or gate you’re leaving from?

  • Have you left contact information with someone at home in case of emergency? Did you fill out an emergency contact card, and do you have it on you? You shouldn’t leave either of these undone!

  • Are your materials and luggage gathered in one place? You don’t want to be running around trying to collect it all—this is the last minute, after all!

  • Do you have your travel guide? If not, don’t worry, as you can probably find an even better one at your destination.

  • Do you have cash and change? Remember, you don’t want to wait to get it when you arrive when you can count on your bank at home.

  • If you have a cell phone, did you pack the charger? This is a very commonly forgotten item, and a replacement isn’t always easily acquired.

  • If you have a laptop, did you pack the AC cord and a spare battery? These are also commonly forgotten, and replacements are even harder to come by.

  • Do you have something to read, or maybe some music to listen to?

  • Did you get your medication, if you need it? Even a few pain relievers could come in handy.

  • Are your toiletries bagged up? A spill on your clothes could be a major setback.

  • Are you smiling? It may sound cheesy, but going out the door with a smile on your face helps set the mood for the entire trip. Good cheer is absolutely essential!

If you’ve followed our advice in the previous guides and have completed this checklist, you should be able to leave with confidence. You’re setting out properly prepared, and with any luck, the hardest part is behind you. Be safe and enjoy yourself!
